Brahima Traore, the head coach of Burkina Faso, stated that his team must adequately prepare themselves to defeat Nigeria and secure a spot in the World Cup.
Burkina Faso managed to advance to the quarter-finals of the 2023 U-17 AFCON after a remarkable 2-1 comeback win against defending champions Cameroon.
After falling behind 1-0 early on, the Burkinabes scored two goals in the final quarter of an hour to secure their place in the last eight.
In his post-match press conference, Traore praised his team’s perseverance and reiterated their objectives for this year’s U-17 AFCON.
According to the CAF website, he said, “Our goals in this tournament were twofold: to reach the semi-finals and then compete for the championship. We will prepare thoroughly for Nigeria to achieve our goal of reaching the semi-finals and securing a World Cup spot.”
