The quarter-final pairings for the 2023 National Youth Games have been finalized following a series of matches held on Tuesday at the Austin Jay Jay Okocha Stadium in Ogwachi-Uku, Delta State.
Teams from Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Kano, Plateau, and Kaduna States have all secured their spots in the last eight of the tournament.
Kaduna’s boys secured their quarter-final berth earlier with an impressive 5-0 victory over the host team, Delta State, in the initial rounds of the competition.
They are now joined by Lagos, who clinched a quarter-final spot after defeating Enugu State 2-1. Akwa Ibom also secured a place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Yobe, while Plateau edged out Bayelsa 1-0.
Kano, after a 1-1 draw in regular time, triumphed over Osun in a penalty shootout, winning 4-2 on penalties.
In the upcoming quarter-final fixtures, Kaduna will face off against the best-performing team from the previous round.
Lagos will go up against the second-best team from the previous round, while Akwa Ibom will compete against the third-best team from the previous matches.
Plateau and Kano will square off against each other, vying for a place in the semi-finals.
