Ugo Agustine, the captain of Team Lagos amputee team, expressed his joy after securing a third-place medal at the Amputee football event during the 2nd edition of the Para Games in Abuja.
Team Lagos emerged victorious with a 3-0 win over Team Plateau.
Agustine conveyed his happiness with the team’s performance, particularly considering that it was their first participation in the Para Games. He stated, “I’m very happy about our turn-up, even though we came third. I’m still happy because this is the first time we are participating in the Para games.”
Despite the challenges leading to their absence in the previous year’s event, Ugo Agustine highlighted the team’s efforts and their satisfaction with achieving a podium finish.

Looking ahead, Ugo Agustine outlined his plan for future preparations, expressing his determination to aim for gold in the next tournament. He said, “As the captain, I will encourage my players to train, and we’ll come up. Maybe we’ll aim for gold in the next tournament. So I hope that everything is going to go very well. And I pray next time when we come, we’ll do better.”
In addressing the people of Lagos, especially the Governor of Lagos State, Agustine appealed for support for the amputee football team.
Acknowledging the challenges many team members face in their daily lives, he urged the government to consider providing employment opportunities that alleviate stress for disabled individuals.
He stated, “If the Lagos state government can do anything for us to at least ease the stress, it’s going to be very okay. And we appreciate it a lot.”
