The 18 holes golf course of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja will be a beehive of golfing activities as no fewer than 500 golfers including 32 professionals and 20 on-training professionals as well as candids and staff swing for honors in Mike Ekoja 2023 Captain’s Cup, teeing off on Thursday.
Organizers of the 2023 Mike Ekoja Captain’s Cup have set aside N2 million prize money for the professional golfer’s category of this year’s golf tournament and some other consolation prizes such as free business class tickets, courtesy of our sponsors, Ibom Air and Qatar Airways.
At a press conference held on Tuesday to herald the week-long tournament, the chairman of the planning committee, Mr. Boboye Oyeyemi, said the competition, which marks the end of Mike Onoja Ekoja’s tenure as the captain of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, will also feature international golfers from neighboring Cameroon, United Kingdom (UK), UAE and others.
“As is our tradition, towards the end of every tenure, we celebrate the stewardship of the captain by organizing a golf and tennis tournament for our caddies, staff, and members of the club.”
“It is also an opportunity to let people know about the game of golf. Golf is healthy, good for living, age-friendly, and builds camaraderie and friendship.
“When you are a golfer, you build a lot of networks and improve your mental faculty,” he said.
According to Oyeyemi, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will perform the ceremonial tee-off of the weeklong event on Saturday, April 22, 2023.
The competition secretary of the club, Julius Fadairo, revealed that the tournament which is on stroke format will be strictly based on the WHS handicapping system.
