Director of sports and LMC chairman for the Island Allstars club, Kelvin Irikefe has lauded the conscious effort put in the just concluded 2023 Island Allstars Super Cup with Allstars emerging as winners of the inaugural edition after defeating IASC Unity Cup winners JohnMax Properties 2-1 to claim the trophy.
The sport administrator who spoke on plans for the next edition in an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng admitted that it was a very competitive game while also praising the grit showed by JohnMax team.
“They are really champions because it’s not easy and they defied the odds; ending up winning the battle but lost the war,” he saluted.
“It’s was simply world class and first of its kind in Nigeria, both in terms of the match quality, planning, spectatorship, media coverage and glamour; attracting the cream-dela-cream and hierarchies of the Lekki sector Police and Federal Road Safety commands, captains of industry, entertainment icons, politicians, and football lovers from far and near.”
On plans for the upcoming edition, he stated that next year’s and subsequent editions will be bigger and granger – “as we look forward to partnering with major corporate sponsors and media brands to highlight the essence of exercise, healthy living, fun and business networking through adult recreational football and sports,” Kelvin revealed.
“Part of our projection is to also use platform of the events and corporate partnership to annually extend some sporting love, equipment, and scholarships to the football and athletics teams of at least two local school within the Lekki- Ajah community.”
“Kudos to the President, LMC, members, and Fan for the football fiesta and post-match party that ran late into the wee hours, we will do it again,” he assured.
