Chikelue Iloenyosi ‘General’, Executive Chairman of the flourishing Anambra Football Association has handed out a high command to the four teams flying the state flag in the 2023 Federation Cup to ‘go and conquer’ as good Ambassadors of the State.
Iloenyosi, a former Nigeria international spoke just as the Awka City Stadium has been designated as the venue for this year’s Federation Cup Round Of 64 games.
It has never happened like this before, Four teams, two male, and two female teams, representing the state, arguably for the very first time in history, made it to the Round of 64.
And a delighted ‘General’ Iloenyosi minced no words in tagging the quartet, Ozalla FC, Edel FC (both male teams), and Awka Angels and Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Camp FC (both female teams) as good Ambassadors of the state and as such should give the state quality representation at the Cup games.
Iloenyosi charged the four teams to go all the way in the competition in other to make the state proud.
“As good Ambassadors’ of Anambra State that you are, we expect and believe that you will give the state quality representation at the national level of the 2023 Federation Cup”, Iloenyosi said.
“The State FA is behind you, the football-loving people of Anambra State are standing behind you in your quest to bring glory to the people and government of the state”, ‘General’ Iloenyosi admonished the teams.
In the draws conducted by NFF in Abuja on Wednesday, Anambra State Champions, Ozalla Football Academy will file out against NPFL side, Doma United with the Goal Project, Abuja National Stadium as the match venue on Thursday, April 26.
On the same day, Edel FC will square up against Kogi United Feeders Team at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure.
In the female category, Anambra State title holders, Awka Angels, will be in Abuja to take on Osun Babes on April 28 while Maureen Mmadu KFC will take on Green Foot Ladies of Enugu inside the Dan Anyiam State in Owerri, on April 28.
Similarly, the National Competitions Department of the NFF has confirmed Awka City Stadium as the venue for four Federation Cup Round Of 64 games taking place next week.
Six male teams will on Wednesday 26th April, battle it out for places in the round of 32 of the Federation Cup while two female teams will also face each other for a place in the next round of competition.
According to a circular from the Nigeria Football Federation, the first match on Wednesday next week will see Nigerian Premier Football League side Lobi Stars of Benue State take on Nigerian National League side FC One Rocket of Akwa Ibom state by 12 pm.
Thereafter, at 2 pm another NNL side, FC Ebedei of Ekiti state will take on the non-league side, Hope of Glory FC of Cross Rivers state.
The final match of the holding at 4 pm will involve Warri Wolves of Delta state and Beyond Limits FC of Ogun state.
In the female category, precisely on Friday, April 28 Sunshine Queens of Ondo state will play Edo Queens to bring a weekend of the festival of football exhibition in Awka to a fitting end.
