With Leicester relegated after nine years of Premier League (PL) membership, and promotion playoff losers Coventry failing to end more than two decades of top-flight absence via penalties, this was as much of a ‘heartbreak derby’ as an all-Midlands clash.
Ndidi started the club’s first game back in the English second-tier after 9 years and was replaced with Dennis Praet in the 62nd minute, while Iheanacho came on to replace Foxes’ favorite Jamie Vardy with 15 minutes left.
The Foxes lost James Maddison to Tottenham, Harvey Barnes to Newcastle, and Youri Tielemans over the summer to Aston Villa but PL veterans Jamie Vardy and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who both looked dangerous in the opening exchanges of the game are set to remain with the team and lead them back to EPL.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s late goal after an earlier goal to spark a comeback was enough for the hosts to see out the game 2-1 and get Enzo Maresca’s having been appointed shortly after Man City’s treble-win Leicester career off to the perfect start.
Leicester City occupy sixth place in the league table and will face Burton Albion in the EFL Cup in their next match on Wednesday.
