Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum said the quarter-final game between Nigeria and The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon will be a difficult one when the two continental giants meet on Thursday.
Super Falcons defeated Burundi 4-0 in their last match of Group B on Sunday night to book their spot in the quarterfinals but finished second behind Banyana Banyana of South Africa, having lost to them in the opening game of the group.
While the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon who are the second-ranked best team in the continental, are yet to lose in the tournament so far but finished second in their group behind Zambia, they won one and drew two in their group stage matches.
The American coach said he expects a tough encounter against Cameroon in the last eight rounds, assuring that the players are ready for the challenge.
“We understand the history between Nigeria & Cameroon. It will be a difficult game & we are looking forward to the game.
“Changing of venue won’t be any factor, the pitch will be fantastic & the players are also looking forward to the game,” he said after the win over Burundi.
The victorious team in the encounter will automatically qualify for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, while the loser will go into the playoffs for the intercontinental qualification path.
