Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo Chapter has hailed the fantastic performance of Team Imo at the just concluded South East Zonal Elimination held in Owerri.
Imo sportsmen and women excelled in all the six team events they took part in and have qualified to represent the zone at the National Sports Festival fixed for Asaba, Delta State next month in Football, Handball, Basketball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball in both male and female categories and Hockey in the female category.
SWAN, Imo in a press release jointly signed by the Chairman, Everest Ezihe and, Secretary, Tunde Liadi thumbed up the impressive performance of Team Imo while also praising the contributions of the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma for providing the enabling environment for the sportsmen and women to do well.
The Sports Writers also commend the passion and willpower of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Dan Ogu who has rallied the State’s sportsmen and women to continue to go for optimum performance in all the sports events they go for.
SWAN, Imo also praised the general coordination of the Imo Sports Commission under the supervision of Sir Ferdinand Emeana with whom the feat recorded by Team Imo was made possible.
The bonafide Sports Writers in Imo State nonetheless admonished that more efforts should be geared towards ensuring that Imo sportsmen and women proceed to camping early knowing that they will meet stiffer opposition at the National Sports Festival which starts next month in Delta State.
Imo SWAN reckons that the state contingent should work towards finishing better than the 10th position they had at the 2020 National Sports Festival held in Benin City, Edo State with 10 Gold, 13 Silver and 26 Bronze medals amounting to mammoth 49 medals.
