The Chelsea coach-player Kelvin Erikefe aka Don Kefe has tendered resignation from being the head coach of his team. The former made this known to sport247 in an interview after his team lost to a lone goal to Manchester United in the ongoing FIRM FC TOURNAMENT at the white dove football pitch Sangotedo, Ajah Lagos state.
The highly spirited coach has been outstanding in coaching his team and has been on a winning record since his assumption of heading the club.
The fans of the club could not bear the first time defeat as they were caught in dismay with sad looks on their faces.
When two elephant battles, the grass suffers it more was the case of the rivalry club that tackled each other to get a final qualification ticket for the 2022 FIRM FC TOURNAMENT.
The pressure from both sides was high as a rebound goal was scored against the Chelsea goalkeeper in the first half of play
Thinking the goal was going to be equalized back in the second half, the Chelsea players could not make any further attempt but were rather held to a man-on-mark attack by the Manchester United players.
The Media sponsor of the tournament is Courtyard Farms Ltd., whose CEO, Baba Sege is also coincidentally Team Manager and coach of Manchester United.
The referee on his own side could not but manage the rising tempo of the match rather than dishing out cards for offenses committed by both teams to calm the players.
Five minutes to the end of the full time, a dangerous short-off target was made by Chelsea striker but could not let the ball inside the goal net as thus the final whistle was blown giving Manchester United a 1-0 clean sheet defeat.
In an interview with sport247 coach don Kefe said;
” My players did very well on the pitch but you never can tell sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose but painfully we’re losing to Manchester United on the strength of 90 minutes otherwise they have never beaten us before”
” Then as a coach by my pedigree and record, this is the first time that I am losing a game within 90 minutes and I made a vow that if one of their striker who left Chelsea for Manchester United for a peanut for not being loyal to the club that I was going to resign.
So I am making it public and on a record, keeping to my words I have tendered a resignation;
But mind your resignation is not permanent and I might come back as a coach but where my job will take me to next time is what I wouldn’t say. He added”
” But on today’s game, I take responsibility for the loss in the sense that firstly I would have started the game as a player retired to stabilize the game but when I came in I put my little best but we were one goal down and on the strength of play we have over 70 percent possession but they were able to hold that lone goal till the end. He said”.
” Coach don Kefe also made a remake about the officiating of the match saying that the officiating of the tournament has not been on a top-notch or not been up to expectations. But the referee decision is final so we have to abide by the rules.”
” I want to say congratulations to Manchester United, and we hope to go ahead and beat team arsenal for the third place then look forward to the next tournament edition that we’re going to meet Manchester United and a day for revenge is coming and surely we will work hard toward that, he concluded”.
