Dominic Onyeji, head coach of Divine Praise FC is the man of the moment following the news of his side’s qualification for the playoff in the 2022/23 NLO Division 2 season with a mouthwatering clash against Dosu Joseph FC expected to take place on Monday.
After Vinning FC had snatched a 2-0 victory over T.K. Bariga earlier yesterday, there were chances that they will go through if Luqui Moly wins Divine Praise FC but Onyeji’s well-tutored side fought valiantly to snatch a point and go through on goal difference.
“I must thank God first because it’s not easy and as we continue even after this, we hope that we will keep having that backing from God. This escape was a very narrow one, I didn’t know we could scale through,” a delighted Onyeji conceded in his post-match reactions with Sports247.ng.
“We knew how important this match was and yet we didn’t have the best of start. The players didn’t come on time and that’s why we had to start those that were able but yet we were able to lead by two goals in the first half before we conceded two in the second half.”
“When you are in a match and you are in a hurry, you make hasty decisions, you lose confidence and that’s what happened that we, unfortunately, surrendered that two-goal lead,” he admitted.
Ahead of the upcoming play-off game against Dosu Joseph FC, Dominic admitted that there will be a different and better approach.
“In football, you play every match with a different approach because the opponents have their philosophies and we have our own too but one thing I know is that it’s going to be a very good match.”
On if the team can match up with Dosu Joseph’s intensity – “Of course, we can and I believe that God that has started with us will do it and this last result will motivate us.
We didn’t know we made it to the play-off and myself too, I got to know right now and it’s such a beautiful moment for us that we were able to scale through at the end, the team will draw strength and motivation from this,” Dominic Onyeji concluded.
