Wasiu Alalade, Lobi Stars forward has admitted that the team is not happy about their winless run in the just concluded 2022/2023 NPFL Championship Play-Offs at the Mobolaji Johnson, Onikan Arena in Lagos while tasking the team to use the pain to prepare hard for the proposed ‘Super Eight’ tournament which is still yet to get a date.

Lobi Stars finished bottom of the log having played five games, lost three, drawn two, and were able to score just only one goal in the tournament which was scored by Elijah Ani in the final game of the campaign in the 3-1 loss to Sunshine Stars.
Assessing the team’s journey after the 3-1 loss to Sunshine Stars, Alalade admitted that this isn’t the best of the team and they will do all they can to turn the tides around going into the new season even though it’s a great privilege considering the number of teams that participated in the abridge and not all can play in the Super Six.
“We are very glad because we are like twenty teams that played the abridged league and thank God we are among the team to participate in the Super Six play-offs which is another opportunity to showcase our potential and we are grateful for that despite the outcome,” he remarked.
“Actually, we are not happy because we came here with the intention to qualify for continental and also win the league but we found ourselves here, there’s nothing we can do than to accept it.”
“We have been told that we will be playing for the Super 8 and we need to prepare for that as well and that’s what is in our mind now,” Alade stated.
With the final result, Enyimba won their ninth NPFL crown and will now feature in the CAF Champions League alongside Remo Stars who will be making their debut in the continent Champions League having played Confederations Cup last season as they narrowly missed out on the title by a goal difference.
Meanwhile, 2022 champions, Rivers United will be playing in the Continental following their third-place finish in the Championship play-offs.
