The much-awaited date for the kickoff of the 4th edition of the Kano SWAN Cup is now nearer than before as the tournament is set to commence today, Friday 3rd December 2021 at the Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabon Gari.
The opening match will see reigning Champions, Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) taking on Radio Nigeria (Pyramid FM) at 4:00 pm.
In a chat with Vision FM’s famous Sports show ‘Afafata’, Chairman of the organizing committee, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Ƙwaru has said that the tournament will serve as an avenue to showcase the football artistry of media personnel in the state and will go a long way in bringing harmony and togetherness amongst members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in the state.
“This tournament is an avenue for us to showcase our talents and to tell the general public that we can also do it.
“It will also bring harmony and togetherness amongst members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) working for various media houses,” Kwaru concluded.
About 13 media houses residing in Kano will participate in this year’s edition and the teams were drawn into 3 groups that would battle for the available eight-quarter final slots.
The group stage matches would be played on Saturdays and Sundays of every week at the Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabon Gari and NUGA Games Village, Bayero University, Old Site, Kano.
