2019 U-20 AFCON: Aigbogun waiting on NFF’s approval for camping for plans

Coach of Nigeria’s U20 national team Paul Aigbogun has revealed that he has sent his 2019 U20 AFCON plans and program to the Nigeria Football Federation and only awaiting approval and response to know when the team resumes preparation for the U20 nation’s cup in Niger.

The Flying Eagles lost 2 – 0 to Senegal in the final of the WAFU B preparatory championship which was recently concluded in Togo designed to give all West Africa teams the needed preparatory boost ahead of the competition in Niger.

Speaking on the team’s outing in a chat with Sports247.ng, Aigbogun stated that his side have learnt valuable lessons playing at the WAFU cup and would have loved to win the competition after getting to the final but however hopes the loss would fuel enthusiasm to succeed among the players at the U20 AFCON next year.

“Losing in the final was painful but we have moved past that and I hope that loss will serve as a propeller to the team ahead of the championship proper. Our aim is to resume our camp early and that is why sent in the proposal early enough so we can get ample time for our camping for the tournament and I believe that with good preparation, we can win the U-20 AFCON.”

The U20 AFCON is scheduled to be played in Niger Republic from February 2 – 17, 2019 with a total of eight team in attendance.

Meanwhile the Flying Eagles have been placed in group A of the competition and will face host Niger, South Africa and Burundi while group B will see U-20 WAFU B champions Senegal square it out against Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana.
