Gateway United FC of Ogun State have begun their 2019 Ogun State FA Cup campaign with an emphatic 5-0 victory against Customs FC at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, sports247.ng reports.
The Abeokuta based side hit the ground running from the blast of the whistle with array of attacks which quickly materialised in the 4th minute thanks to Michael Okolo who opened the scoring with a sensational 25 yard effort, Moses Ojewumi, the Media Officer informs.
10 minutes after, Abdul Azeez Abdul Salam doubled the lead, tapping in a low cross from Taiye Yusuf. As Customs FC kept on absorbing the pressure, the defence was caught napping again on the dot of half time; wing back Isiaka Kabiru dashed into opponents’ box and fired a low shot to make it three.
In quick succession, Odunbaku Kola and super substitute Rafiu Isiaq found the targets from close range in the 75th and 78th minute. Though, the customs boys improved their transitional play but rarely posed a threat to Adamu Azeez who had a field day in between the sticks.
In his assessment, the head coach Akeem Busari hailed the prolificacy of his side saying the confidence of his players has received a huge boost to return to winning ways in the NNL.
Following the barren draw against Ekiti United in Abeokuta, Gateway United will now shift attention against Dynamite FC in Auchi in the matchday 2 of the 2018/2019 Nigerian National League on Saturday 20th April, 2019
