Super Eagles forward Alex Iwobi will be given extra days to rest before joining his other teammates preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Iwobi came off the bench to score a consolation goal in Arsenal’s 4-1 loss to fellow English club Chelsea in Wednesday’s UEFA Europa League final in Baku.
Super Eagles media officer, Toyin Ibitoye said the training is expected to begin in Asaba on Sunday and revealed that the 23-year-old will be given two or three days rest before joining the team in Asaba.
“All players should resume on Sunday except Alex Iwobi who may get extra two or three days before he joins the rest of the squad.
“He was involved in Arsenal’s UEFA Europa League final on Wednesday and definitely needs to rest to regain his strength,” Ibitoye said.
Nigeria will kick-off their AFCON campaign against Burundi on June 22, followed by games with Guinea and Madagascar.
