Abiodun was named the most valuable player. After his two goals and an assist propelled his team to the competition’s highest winning margin, and the youngster admitted he was delighted with his feat.
He, however, quickly interjected that he and his teammates must end their celebrations in order to concentrate on preparations for their next group match.
Abiodun disclosed as much to sports247.ng and added, “I feel elated and very happy, but it’s a step at a time. This game has come and gone; we now have to prepare for the next game.”
Abiodun then opened up on the game plan and strategy that helped his side snatch the highest victory margin so far in this year’s edition of the prestigious competition.
“It’s all about listening to instructions and playing to the coach’s tactics. If you don’t do that, you end up on the losing side. That’s one important thing we have learnt.
“Coming into this game, there were certain instructions which the coach gave us, and we adhered to them. That’s what gave us the day. Simple,” Abiodun expatiated.
He then ruled out insinuations that they won so massively only because the opponents were weak, adding: “Beating them 5-0 does not make them less of a team.
“It could happen even in Europe, whereby Man U or Arsenal can beat Everton 7-0. Whatever the result, you have to respect your opponent.
“You must honour them and give respect to whom it is due. They’ve been training, they prepared hard, but, fortunately for us, luck was on our side.
“We don’t pray that we’ll be on the losing side as such, because we have prepared so hard, but you can’t rule out such results once in a while.”
He submitted with words about his personal strides in the mammoth win and declared that he has huge ambitions of increasing his haul of goals.
“I got two goals and an assist, and I’m happy about the result. Like any other player, I always aspire to be the best.
“My target is that, before the end of this competition, God should see me through, and I should get eight or ten goals.
“I don’t think that should be too much for me,” Abiodun projected with optimism
