The latest shower of praise on the maiden 1X Bet Cup is coming from Coach Nicholas Ogbaini of New Talented Ballers FC, who also praised the organisers, led by ex-international, Waheed Akanni, for putting together what he tagged ‘a rare opportunity to showcase talent.’
Ogbaini stated as much after leading his team out for their first competitive match and, though they lost it to Ikorodu Eagles, the youthful tactician expressed satisfaction with the performance of his players.
He declared enthusiastically, “They gave it their best, though the result is a disappointing one. We gave it our best, but we lost. So, we just have to go back, then try to put in more work and more effort.
“I believe we’ll come back stronger. It’s a team put together by players, and there’s no sponsor yet. What you’ve seen at this competition is purely work in progress.
“We are not yet done with building the team. We just did a little work, and the team is only two months old. It’s a privilege to be here.
“There are so many challenges facing us, but we must keep pushing. I’m not going to blame the players because this is purely work in progress.
“It’s not easy bringing so many different players together to come and play in a competition like this. I am happy with the spirit they used and the effort they put in.
“It’s a disappointing result in general, but I am happy with the way they played and their discipline. That’s what I want.”
While stressing that he and his players enjoyed the atmosphere, Ogbaini concluded by showering accolades on the sponsors and organisers.
“It’s a good innovation in a country like this; where we hardly have opportunities to come out and express ourselves like this.
“This type of competition is rare, and we are happy to be here. Thanks to 1X Bet. Thank you to the sponsors, and thank you to the organisers. They are doing a good job, and we are happy,” Ogbaini signed out.
