The 11th edition of Island Allstars Sports Club annual football tournament, tagged “2021 IASC Club House Cup” kicked off, Saturday 30th October, at the Lekki Lagos Business School Sports arena, with untold excitement and glamour.
The tournament which features 4 teams and is being played in a round-robin format of 6 matchdays, has 50 distinguished businessmen and public servants trading tackles for the coveted trophy that would be won on December 18, 2021.
The final matchday is expected to be followed by a lavish end-of-year gala night, where newly admitted members would be formally inducted into the club.
After a glamorous and world-class match draws held a week earlier at Skippo Lounge & Bar Lekki, the stage was set for exciting matches which were flagged with the ceremonial kickoff by the President of the club, Barrister Briggs Amajuruoyi.
The club president admonished members on the importance of unity while disclosing that the club is set to move to its brand new private ultra-modern sports complex next year, as he equally described it, the first of its kind in Nigeria.
In the opening fixtures, Team Uche Oha Farms defeated Team Trapani Marble and Granite 2-0; while Team Whintrop Group and Team Derick Brown Homes played out a 1-1 draw. The two games were streamed live all over the world on 247 online sports TV.
According to tournament executive coordinator, Kelvin Irikefe, the “world-class tournament standard and organization on display is unmatched in Allstars football clubbing anywhere in Africa.”
On his part, former Nigeria international and the tournament LMC chairman, Raphael Chukwu Ndukwe, enjoined all football lovers to come to watch exciting football on Match Day 2, with games kicking off by 8:30am Saturday, November 6, at the LBS Lekki.
