The 10km road race is a joint effort of UB40 Sports Marketing and Starlite Sports Marketing, with backing from the Surulere Local Government and the Lagos State Sports Commission.
The marathon is expected to attract at least 300 amateur runners, with entry categories ranging from youngsters to adults, and the funfair will serve as an enjoyable finale to the event.
Gbajabiamila, who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the welfare, growth and development of the Surulere community, gave his endorsement during a courtesy visit of the Local Organising Committee members led by its chairman Sola Lawson.
“I am thrilled because this initiative aligns with my values and priorities of a healthy lifestyle, community engagement and socio-cultural unity,” Gbajabiamila said in a statement released on Wednesday by the event’s Director of Communications, Phil Odiakose.
“It is therefore without hesitation that I recommend this event to Surulere stakeholders and urge all members of the Surulere community to participate and lend their support to this unique family event,” he added.
The 10km road race will start from the Teslim Balogun Stadium and will end at the “The Stable” – Union Bank Sports and Entertainment Centre, in Surulere.
It will be followed by a post-race funfair and entertainment including a musical concert, traditional dances, food, drinks and special recognition awards to distinguished individual and corporate “citizens” of Surulere.
