A few days ago, www.e-nigeriang.com published the story of 10 year-old Jessica who saved up launch and transport money given her by her parents and donated it to acid attack victim; a police officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police – ASP John Joshua.
Little Jessica saw on her mum’s Facebook page, video of ASP John Joshua appealing to the public for assistance in raising the N2.5 million needed for him to carry out a correctional surgery that will help him regain his sight.
www.e-nigeriang gathered that 10-year-old Jessica had so far saved up to N40,000 which she handed over to ASP John Joshua and also, she is championing a fund-raising campaign for him too.
The campaign, we gathered, is beginning to garner public attention, with some eminent Nigerians indicating interest
The unfortunate mishap that befell officer Joshua happened in December 2016 at Chi Industries Ltd premises in Ajao Estate, Lagos.
The management of Chi Industries had made a distress call asking for Police intervention and protection from its rogue staff who were looting the company’s warehouse, and upon the arrival of a police squad into the company’s premises the workers ambushed them and ASP John Joshua was victim of caustic soda missiles attack.
Known as ASP John Olushola Joshua he was Patrol Commander attached to Ajao Estate Police Station in Lagos before the incident.
Even though he lost his sight in active duty, the Police seem to have abandoned officer Joshua to his fate for three years now, before 10-year-old Jessica came into the picture.
When e-NIGERIA! reached out to the Lagos State Police Public Relations officer, Bala Elkanah for a reaction, he acknowledged seeing our earlier publication and assured that the Police had begun enquiries into the matter.
“We have seen your earlier publication as well as the video and I can assure you that we are currently checking our records in order to get full details of the matter”, Bala said.
Meanwhile, ASP John Joshua, needs only N2.5 million naira for his surgery and is pleading with members of the public to assist him.
